Label & Title rules
It is important to keep People First's labels and titles consistent across the application. Below are the global rules to follow.
Labels of the fields
Always start with a capital letter, using lower case for the rest of the words.
Examples:
- Parent work location
- Compensation plan
- Last working day
- Start date
Labels
Field labels should be in sentence case, starting with a capital letter, using lower case for the rest of the word EXCEPT if an ‘&” sign is used. The word following will start with a capital letter. E.g. Driver & Vehicle Abbreviations should be avoided where possible.
Example
Passport number as opposed to Passport no. Date fields should always conclude with 'date', unless adding the date after the label creates a coherent sentence.
Fields
Field names should be the same as the field label on the form where possible. There may be exceptions. For example, last modified date and user will be will be displayed as “Last date modified by [user name] on [date modified]” Normally the user will select a form then a field, if the field name is used without the context of a form, for example adding a field into a word mail merge document, then the field name should be prefixed with the form name unless the form name is already in the field name.
Names of people
Only first name(s) and last name(s) should have the first letter capitalised. This also applies to display name as well.
Example
Bob Smith Mary - Beth Jones Maria Bernarda Fernández Marco Antonio de la Cruz
Names of objects
Always start the word with a capital letter, and the rest of the letters are non-capital.
Example
Payroll analyst Product designer Britannia House Nottingham
Buttons
Always in full capitals. E.g.
- Non-field and non-button labels
- Always start with a capital letter, using lower case for the rest of the words, UNLESS there is a name or title.
- Holidays remaining: 12 days
- The position of a Developer is now vacant
Referring to People First
People First must always be two separate words and have initial caps on both words, unless the logo is being use in which cause the text is in lowercase.
